Job overview

We are seeking applicants for a developmental post within our busy Paediatric Diabetes Team, starting at Band 6 with the potential to progress to Band 7 after 12-18 months, based on competence and confidence. In this role, you will be fully supported in gaining experience with the MDT, participating in weekly clinics, and learning the latest diabetes technologies, including CGM and hybrid closed-loop systems.
You will receive support to educate newly diagnosed patients and their families, manage a caseload of patients, co-facilitate various groups, and deliver training to healthcare professionals, schools, and families. Additionally, you will be supported to undertake a course in paediatric diabetes (20 credits, level 6/7), along with other short courses specific to paediatric diabetes. Upon progression to Band 7, you will be expected to hold the on-call team phone for a week at a time, approximately every five weeks, to provide out-of-hours advice.

Main duties of the job

  • To be effective in organising and planning the day to day management of the Diabetes Team
caseload, ensuring the individual needs of children/young people and their families are met.
  • To have an open minded approach to work and demonstrate ability to multitask in order to get the
job done through flexible hours and locations
  • To identify and manage risks to patients and staff.
  • To be responsible for line management, education and training, and support and mentoring of
    colleagues.
  • To work collaboratively and develop effective relationships within the multi-disciplinary team and
    other departments and organisations
  • To develop and monitor quality initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care, in line with
the Clinical Governance framework and Best Practice Tariff.
  • To work strategically to influence the development of the service both locally and regionally

Working for our organisation

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon. The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 4,100 staff provide services for a population of over 360,000 people who are relatively young with a high level of ethnic diversity.

Our main hospital site, Croydon University Hospital is one of the busiest in London. Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after people of all ages across Croydon and our Children’s Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.

Across the NHS everyone is working hard to meet growing demand and we’re no exception. But with the right people on board, we are rising to this challenge, putting our people in the driving seat, encouraging innovation and transforming our services to give local people the quality of care they deserve. Croydon Health Services puts a great deal of importance on education and training. Croydon University Hospital plays an active role in training the clinicians of the future and works in partnership with major London universities

If you want the opportunity to have a real impact, challenge yourself and be part of an NHS Trust then a career at Croydon Health Services could be just what you’re looking for.
