Nursery Nurse for Greenwich & Bexley Special Schools

Job overview

The Community Children’s Nursing Service is part of a network of services for children in Greenwich and Bexley providing high quality specialist child centred care. The Nursery Nurse will work as part of this team but will be based within the special schools setting.  This role will have a main focus of managing the continence needs of the children within the special schools of Greenwich and Bexley. The post holder must possess good communication skills and be able to work as part of the wider Community Children’s Nursing Service.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 4 Nursery nurse to work within the Greenwich and Bexley Special schools nursing team.

The post holder will be an individual that has experience working with children with complex healthcare and additional needs. You will also demonstrate commitment to continued development and innovation within the team.

We work as an integrated child & young people’s nursing service and you will be required to work closely with our local and tertiary hospitals, our children’s community nursing team and continuing care team.

The post holder will be actively involved in participating with the development and implementation of practice within the special schools nursing team ensuring that evidenced based practice is being delivered. You will work closely with the special school nurses and the children’s community nurses to carry out the care plans for the children that are within the special schools.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide & promote health care for students with Special Needs and Complex Healthcare Needs.

Work as part of Special School Nurse Team

  • Support the children and young people with their continence needs.
  • Involved in delivery of clinical care in accordance with healthcare plans.
  • Supporting the school nurse with medicines management within the Special schools.
  • Assisting with health assessments.
  • Supporting the school nurse to manage clinical emergencies.
  • To support the special school nurse with the training and competence of education staff.
  • To be familiar with IT systems such as Microsoft word and to be able to use the RIO database.
  • To have experience supporting children with special educational needs.
  • To maintain accurate clinical records and to update RIO records in a timely manner.
  • To recognise the child at risk discussing in the first instance with the line manager and complying with the Trust and London Child Protection procedures.
  • To carry out checks in line with team standard operating practice to ensure safe ways of working.
  • To maintain continence care plans.
  • To put toilet training programs in place and to work with the education staff and families to ensure they are followed.
