Job overview

The Hillingdon Hospital wishes to appoint a Urology Specialist Registrar to join the Urology department, initially on a 6 month fixed-term contract basis with possibility of extension in future.

The department provides a general Urology service for patients in the Hillingdon Borough. There has been an increase in Urological activity over the last three years and it is anticipated that this will continue to grow.

Main duties of the job

The Post Holder will

  • Participate in the Registrar (ST3+) on call Rota with prospective cover.
  • Provide supervision and teaching to junior doctors and multi-disciplinary team members in Urology
  • Clinical - Duties are delegated by the Consultant surgeons
  • Research and Audit projects are encouraged

The Hillingdon Hospital, which is situated near Uxbridge in the south of the London Borough of Hillingdon, has over 600 beds. In the north sector, Mount Vernon Hospital is also managed by Hillingdon Trust. The Chief Executive is Patricia Wright. The hospital offers a wide range of specialities, treating 44,000 in-patients a year. Amongst these services is a large A&E 
department, which deals with approximately 100,000 attendances per year, an Acute Cardiac Unit and Intensive Care Unit with an adjoining four-bedded High Dependency Unit.

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrating ability to meet the Trust ‘CARES’ values (Communication, Attitude, Responsibility, Equity, Safety)
  • Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
  • FRCS/MRCS
  • Have experience in Urological surgery
  • Demonstrates ability, initiative, drive to contribute to the strategy, deliver and support change and improve services for patients placing care at the heart of the service
  • Ability to develop, influence, communicate and deliver the strategy working with divisions
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary group.
  • Acute Urology on call
  • Experience of scrotal surgery, flexible cystoscopy and urology clinics.
  • Experience of clinical audit and enable delivery of good practice
  • Evidence of quality and service improvement
  • Demonstrate leadership, team player, flexibility and organisational skills within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate changes in clinical practice.
  • Committed to patient focused care, learning and CPD
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and approachability.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance
  • Basic IT skills, i.e. able to handle e-mails and presentations
