Job overview
These posts form part of an exciting expansion of our paediatric department to improve neonatal medical cover following the Ockenden review. We have two 8PA substantive posts for paediatricians with a neonatal interest to contribute to a new dedicated Neonatal on call rota (1:6) and provide enhanced consultant cover for postnatal infants and labour ward during weekday mornings.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a Stakeholder event on Teams (date/time tba) before AAC Panel interviews; candidates are encouraged to visit the department prior to this. AAC Panel interviews will be held on 20 August 2024. Posts available August; RCPCH approval pending.
Main duties of the job
Each post has 8 Programmed Activities (PAs), annualised as 6.25 PA Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1.75 PA Supporting Clinical Activities (SPA).
The successful applicants will have the following DCC commitments:
· 6.4 weeks Neonatal Attending (consultant of the week) on average per year
· 37 Labour ward/Postnatal 0900-1399 shifts per year
· 1:6 weekday and weekend on calls covering neonatology
· Outpatient clinics
· MDT meetings
SPA time includes: professional development; clinical supervision; departmental and governance meetings; service development; guidelines, audit/QI; management/investigation of incidents and complaints. Exact proportions/additional SPA roles discussed in team job planning. Opportunities exist to increase paid work beyond 8PA via additional DCC/SPA roles, e.g. educational supervisor (0.25PA per trainee).
Our department is proud of the care we give our young patients. Trainees appreciate the support and team working that embody Hillingdon paediatrics. We look forward to welcoming new colleagues to our team.
