Job overview

This 10PA substantive Acute Paediatric Consultant post is part of an exciting expansion of our paediatric team. The Trust has employed Acute Paediatric Consultants since 2015, providing resident night cover.  We are proud this model has improved the care we give neonates, children and young people 24/7, ensuring consultant led emergency care and decision making is always readily available.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a Stakeholder event on Teams (date/time tba) before AAC Panel interviews; candidates are encouraged to visit the department prior to this. AAC Panel interviews will be held on 20 August 2024. Posts available August; RCPCH approval pending.

Main duties of the job

This post has 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), annualised as 8.25 PA Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1.75 PA Supporting Clinical Activities (SPA). (Job share/LTFT working possible.)

The post contributes resident Acute Consultant nights (1:7) and PAU (Paediatric Assessment Unit) cover on week-days/evenings and 1:14 weekends (total weekend commitment 3:14). Clinic and MDT activity complete DCC. Additional special interests welcome.

SPA time includes: professional development; clinical supervision; departmental and governance meetings; service development; guidelines, audit/QI; management/investigation of incidents and complaints.  Exact proportions/additional SPA roles discussed in team job planning. Opportunities exist to increase paid work beyond 10PA via additional DCC/SPA roles, e.g. educational supervisor (0.25PA per trainee).

Our department is proud of the care we give our young patients.  Trainees appreciate the support and team working that embody Hillingdon paediatrics. We look forward to welcoming new colleagues to our team.
