An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Hillingdon Hospitals Specialist Neurological Rehabilitation Team on the Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit.

We are looking for a dynamic and skilled Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working within the area of Neurological Rehabilitation. The Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit has provided  specialist Neurological Rehabilitation over many years, we also work in partnership with Imperial NHS Trust to provide 8 level 1 rapid access acute rehabilitation services (RAAR) beds within their current service.  4 RAAR beds are provided on The Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit at Hillingdon Hospital. 

The successful applicant will work within the current neurological rehabilitation team on ARU working across both level 1 and level 2 neurological rehabilitation beds on the Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit.

Main duties of the job

You must demonstrate a high level of communication skills within a multidisciplinary environment and want to continue to develop within the specialist area of Neurological Rehabilitation.

The successful candidate will:

- Gain experience in treating complex neurological patients with a variety of neurological conditions

- Work within an established multidisciplinary neurological therapy team and develop close links within North West London Services across the patient pathway

- Have excellent opportunities to develop skills in physical and cognitive rehabilitation, within an efficient and clinically effective Occupational Therapy service

-Have the opportunity to be involved in ongoing development of the service and participate in our in-house training programme.

  • Have HCPC registration.
  • Have NHS experience at Band 6 level, including rotations within neurological rehabilitation or experience treating patients with acquired brain injuries due to various aetiologies and other neurological conditions
  • Are hardworking, adaptable, possess high-level communications skills, initiative and self-motivation.

At Hillingdon Hospital the therapy services are fully integrated, the Occupational Therapists and physiotherapists work together to provide an exciting, friendly and supportive environment in which staff are encouraged to develop to their full potential. You will contribute to the leadership of the wider integrated therapy service and continuous development of the service.  You will be supported by the Therapy Team Lead and the band 8a clinical specialist in Occupational Therapy.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to graduate level or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC Registration
  • MSc or evidence of Equivalent Experience and/or Postgraduate training in Neurological or Stroke specialist field.
  • Appropriate staff management /leadership training
  • Extensive post registration experience, should be in a neurological setting.
  • Evidence of theoretical and practical learning in previous posts leading to highly specialist level within the speciality.
  • Evidence of appraisal & supervision of staff and occupational therapy students.
  • Experience working as part of an occupational therapy team and or multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of training staff, students and peers.
  • Evidence of participation in service development programmes / audit
  • Evidence of experience in specialist equipment provision
  • Use of OT and Multi-disciplinary outcome measures and goal setting.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and other current drivers & guidelines affecting practice.
  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and identifying areas of concern.
  • Highly specialist skills in the treatment and management of patients with neurological disability
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
  • Clinical Educators course
  • Membership of Special interest group
  • Attendance on advanced clinical courses relevant to the field e.g. Bobath course
  • Previous experience in research.
  • Previous experience in application of Clinical Governance principles
  • Sound knowledge of current health policy related to specialism
  • Understanding of dynamics and complexities of the NHS environment.

  • Research skills
