Job overview

The Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) failsafe officer supports the antenatal and newborn screening co-ordinator in the collation and entry of data for the antenatal and newborn screening programmes, infectious diseases in pregnancy, Down’s syndrome screening and Fetal Anomaly Screening, Haemoglobinopathy screening and Newborn Infant Physical Examination and Newborn Bloodspot screening. The failsafe officer will identify screening coverage of the eligible population and ensure safety of the screening programmes. She/he will work closely with the antenatal and newborn screening co-ordinator to facilitate failsafe mechanisms to identify and also prevent missed screening opportunities and maintain an audit trail for all of the above mentioned screening programmes. The ANNB failsafe officer will also maintain and evolve mechanisms to collect cohort data for the key performance indicators (KPI) and antenatal standards data and the National Screening Committee Annual Report for Antenatal and Newborn Screening. Assist in the collation of information and the production of Public Health England submissions.

The failsafe officer will be expected to communicate with other professionals involved in the screening process, to participate in the organisation of meetings, take minutes for the meetings, preparation of teaching materials and dissemination of performance management letters.

Main duties of the job

Main Responsibilities-

· Clinical support role for the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Service

· Support the screening co-ordinators to develop, maintain and monitor screening database systems to support the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Programme

· Escalates any missed screening to the screening co-ordinator as a priority.

· Ensure that all antenatal screening data is compliant with the National Key Performance indicators

· Assists in the collation of information and the production of the Annual Screening Report

· Assists in the collation of information and the production for the Quality Assurance failsafe visits.

· Assists in the collation of information and the production of NHS England submissions.

· She/he will use the data to support data collection as required. Document rejection and missing screening and disseminate information to screening leads.

· Is able to identify and escalate problems that may affect the quality of the data and subsequent reports.

· Inputs accurate and timely data into Cerner and NIPE S4N

· Under the director of the screening co-ordinator, prepare prior to relevant meetings/seminars for midwives and other professionals involved in the screening programmes. May also attend meetings, take and distribute minutes.

· Work flexible and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required.

· Has a polite and professional manner when communicating with other professionals and outside agencies.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level- Must include English and Maths (A-C)
  • Willing to undertake further training specific to the position
  • Experience of working with a range of Microsoft office packages (e.g. Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
  • Experience in using spreadsheets and database
  • Experience of using IT systems
  • Experience of working in a busy office/customer care environment
  • Experience of using Cerner and Viewpoint
