CAMHS Learning Disability (LD) Nurse

Band 6

We have been working together in a Partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust for some time, with a single Chair and Chief Executive since 2021 and single Executive Team since 2022. We launched our North London Mental Health Partnership Strategy in May 2023 and in July 2023 our Boards agreed that coming together to create one new Trust is best for our service users, our staff and our local communities. Subject to final approvals, we will be formally established as one new Trust on 1 October 2024.

Our new trust website is: Home | North London Mental Health Partnership

Job overview

We have a great opportunity for a band 6 CAMHS LD Nurse to join the Haringey CAMHS Learning Disabilities team. The post is a full time permanent post.

Applications would be welcome from experienced band 5 and 6 nurses looking to gain CAMHS and Community Learning Disability Nurse experience.

The Team

Haringey CAMHS LD team is a multidisciplinary team within the Haringey CAMHS division. We work together with other teams within the Haringey CAMHS division; Generic, Mental Health Service in Schools (MHST),  Assertive  Outreach Team (AOT) and the Access team. The LD team currently consists of a Consultant Child Psychiatrist, Behaviour Analyst, Wellbeing Practitioner, Assistant psychologist and a Team Manager. We are presently  looking to expand the team much further to include an LD nurse, Clinical Psychologist and a Speech and Language Therapist .

We also work in partnership with SEN schools and  other agencies across the borough to support CYP who suffer from moderate to severe learning disabilities and their families.

The position will provide the opportunity to develop skills in specialist Learning Disability nursing, holding and managing caseload,  pathway working,  mentoring students and working within a multi-disciplinary team whilst being part of a supportive team.

We will provide regular clinical supervision and you will be supported to continue your professional development.

Main duties of the job

To work as an integral member of the CAMHS LD team for CYP with moderate to severe Learning Disabilities.   To assess the care needs, design, develop and implement and evaluate programmes of care in partnership with CYP and families/carers.  To provide clinical advice/support to CYP providing services to the client group as a member of the wider Haringey CAMHS division.  To assist in developing services.  To liaise appropriately with SEN schools and other agencies.  To maintain a designated caseload.  Participate in teaching staff/students, where appropriate.

To positively represent the needs and rights of CYP, tacking health inequalities and improving access to NHS services for CYP with LD through facilitating a close working relationship between primary and specialist services, Voluntary and Private Organisations and Carers.

Working for our organisation

The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.

Why choose to join the Partnership?

  • We believe that by working together, our two Trusts can achieve more for the residents of North Central London and our patients than we can by working apart.
  • Deliver the best care using the most up-to-date practise in supporting those with mental health illnesses.
  • Transforming and creating a positive environment for our service users, staff and visitors.
  • Creating and working together to become a great place to work for all our staff.

  • Generous Annual Leave Allowance
  • NHS Discounts in a large variety of retail stores and services.
  • We have excellent internal staff network support groups.

The postholder will need to be comfortable working in an environment of complex matrix management arrangements and will at all times behave and align with our Trusts’ values and cultural pillars:

  • We are kind

  • We work together
  • We keep things simple
  • We empower
