We have been working together in a Partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust for some time, with a single Chair and Chief Executive since 2021 and single Executive Team since 2022. We launched our North London Mental Health Partnership Strategy in May 2023 and in July 2023 our Boards agreed that coming together to create one new Trust is best for our service users, our staff and our local communities. Subject to final approvals, we will be formally established as one new Trust on 1 October 2024.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the Adolescent Outreach Team (AOT) in Haringey CAMHS. The AOT work with young people, aged 12-18, presenting with acute mental health needs (including severe depression and anxiety, trauma, psychosis) and/or significant levels of risk to self or others.

Haringey AOT are a multidisciplinary team, comprising of Psychiatry, Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Family Therapy and other CAMHS Clinicians. The team offer intensive contact for a period of time, to assess and support young people and their parents/carers manage their mental health needs and reduce risk taking behaviour. Clinicians in the AOT work closely with parents and carers, and with the network of connected professionals, including, schools, children’s services and other mental health providers, to promote a young person’s emotional wellbeing, safety and recovery.

The post holder will offer specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence informed interventions to young people and their parents and carers, in a range of community settings or the clinic, as the need requires. In addition, you will offer psychologically informed advice and consultation to the AOT multi-disciplinary team meetings, to CAMHS colleagues to support their clinical work and to professionals in partner agencies,

·       To undertake initial assessments as appropriate, including risk assessment and risk management plans in conjunction with the team, involving other agencies or services as

·       appropriate to ensure patient safety, in the midst of crisis’ or emergency.

 

·       To provide specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources. These will include systemic methodologies, psychological and psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

 

·       To make skilled evaluations to employ research based models in order to formulate and implement psychological treatment with individuals, couples, families and carers in the context of the professional and wider social systems.

 

·       To implement a range of highly specialist psychological interventions for Individuals, carers, families and groups within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations, informed by different exploratory models. And maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

·       To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both

·       theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical

·       and developmental processes that have shaped the individuals, family

·       or group.

·       To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment

·       and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based

·       care plans, including communication with the referral agent and others involved in

·       care.

 

·       To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other

·       professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment

·       plan.

 

·       To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to

·       provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment

·       and risk management.

 

·       To communicate and give feedback in a skilled and sensitive manner, information

·       concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their

·       care and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of both uni-and multidisciplinary care.

 

·       To provide advice, guidance and consultation to peer and junior professionals

·       within the service, both individually, and by attendance at team referral and review

·       meetings.

Qualifications/ Registrations

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPSRegistration with the Health Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.

  • Training in a subject/skill relevant to Child and Adolescent Mental Health (0-18 years)

  • Advanced skills in using a wide variety of evidencebased psychological theory, therapy protocols and interventions and the ability to use these appropriately in relation to client need and work setting. Advanced skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management of a wide variety of mental health presentations. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical &/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Extensive understanding of child development, mental health difficulties and psychosocial influences, including trauma and attachment. Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships and maintain professional boundaries. Advanced skills in professional supervision and consultation including to multi-disciplinary and multiagency colleagues. Ability to complete psychological assessment, intervention and care plans to meet the needs of clients. Ability to apply learning in practice.

Experience/ Knowledge

  • Experience of working with children and adolescents in CAMHS or equivalent Services. Experience of offering and knowledge and understanding of the need to offer evidence-based therapy protocols for range of common and less common presentations in all levels of severity. Experience in managing and treating clients with a risk of self-harm, suicide and/or substance misuse. Experience of specialist psychological assessment including specifically assessments for neurodevelopmental conditions such as ASD and ADHD Experience in the application of risk assessment, including self-harm and suicidality, and intervention with both individuals and their families, and safeguarding procedures in this area. Previous experience of supervising clinicians and in operational leadership functions.
