Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to join the Joint Research and Enterprise Services as a Research Governance and Facilitation officer. This post plays a key role in providing research governance and facilitation services to academics and clinicians with a focus on clinical studies hosted at St George’s, and non-CTIMPs sponsored by St George’s.
The Research Governance and Facilitation Officer will provide a high standard service to clinical researchers in the processing of project approvals, assessing and offering advice on study feasibility and providing on-going project support. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that clinical research carried out at St George’s is performed to the highest quality in terms of science, governance, and ethical standards. The post-holder will be responsible for the research projects originating from a range of Divisions and Institutes at St George’s.
Main duties of the job
This role will support the development, implementation and monitoring of systems for the effective management of Research & Development, research governance, and risk management in research across St George’s University Hospitals Foundation Trust and St George’s University London. Thereby ensuring that appropriate and robust systems are in place to support, monitor and coordinate research activity across the two institutions, in accordance with the relevant regulations, legislation and mandatory guidance.

The post-holder will foster excellent communication and working relationships with the clinical research delivery professionals internally and externally and be able to work well under pressure and cope with conflicting demands whilst maintaining excellent organisational, communication and IT skills. Confidentiality, accuracy and attention to detail are fundamental for this position.

Essential criteria
- Experience of HRA, MHRA and NHS Management and approval processes
- Previous administrative experience in an NHS, University or clinical research environment
- Working knowledge of legislation & guidelines relevant to clinical research
Desirable criteria
- Experience of reviewing research related contracts
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Degree in a bioscience or medical subject
- Teaching & assessing qualification or equivalent relevant experience
Skills

- Analytical skills
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Ability to effectively organise own workload with minimum of supervision and to work within tight deadlines
Desirable criteria
- Experience of writing and working to Standard Operating Procedures
- Ability to take initiative and propose changes to processes / procedures
