Job overview

We currently have a Finance Manager vacancy for a qualified/part qualified CCAB accountant or equivalent with NHS finance experience who is able to demonstrate strong communication/ interpersonal and management skills supervising a team of two staff.

Main duties of the job

1.       To act as Lead Finance specialist for a range of services and directorates in SWLP division.

2.       To lead and process the month end reporting.

3.       To develop and maintain an in-depth specialist knowledge of the Trust’s accounting processes and procedures and the system relating to budgetary control and business planning

4.       To have an expert understanding of national accounting standards and an awareness of NHS Finance Initiatives

5.       To develop a close understanding of the Directorate and to adopt a pro-active approach to problem solving and anticipating and evaluating financial risks.  Build strong working relations with business managers and clinicians in each SDU/Dept.

6.       To operate an effective budgetary control system for all relevant directorate budgets, to provide budget holders with accurate and reliable feed back on their financial performance to support the delivery of a balanced budget position at the end of each financial year.

7.       To analyse financial performance each month, investigating the underlying causes and highlighting key issues for discussion and action. To use variance analysis on the monthly financial statements to understand and explain the key variances.

8.       To ensure the accurate and timely reporting of financial performance to appropriate levels of management

Working for our organisation

This post will work along with the Deputy Head of Finance and Commercial Finance Manager and be responsible for a range of services within the Pathology division within the Trust.  The post-holder will be expected to work within the Divisional Finance Team to deliver high quality financial information and advice for the South West London Pathology (SWLP). SWLP is a partnership and provide pathology services for St Georges, Epsom & St Helier, Croydon and Kingston NHS Hospitals. SWLP is hosted by St Georges

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 

1.     Financial responsibility for a range of services within a Support Service Division and its directorates.

2.     Ensuring financial information is provided in accordance with Trust financial timetables and procedures.

3.     Responding to request for financial information from managers and budget holders and investigates issues as required.

4.     Providing advice to managers and staff on all financial issues.

5.     Conduct budget setting and assist with completing business case developments.

6.     Managing and controls of staffing requests checking to budget and funding.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional Accountancy Qualification, or post registration / graduate Diploma level (or equivalent), or specialist organisational, procedural or policy knowledge, and experience indicated below

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 4 years NHS Trust Finance experience or equivalent organisation.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good level of competence in basic Excel, Word and Outlook Advanced keyboard skills Good communication and listening skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively to all levels of staff and management
  • Good organisational skills used in planning the work priorities of others

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Expert understanding of NHS Trust financial framework, advanced grasp of accounting techniques and principles (especially as they apply to the NHS), and expert understanding of Trust accounting systems
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information effectively to all levels of staff and management
  • Ability to communicate complex information effectively to all levels of staff and management
