An exciting opportunity has arisen for a caring and enthusiastic, Registered nurse to join our friendly and hardworking team within the Diabetes and Endocrine Unit at St George’s University Hospital.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and skills in caring for patients with both Diabetes and Endocrine conditions. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills; have a flexible working approach and a willingness to work as part of a forward thinking team.

 As skills and competencies develop, they will be expected to actively participate in and contribute to the day to day activities of the department by supervising, supporting and mentoring students and HCA’s and assisting with the Flash Glucose monitoring (Free Style Libre)

Main duties of the job

To provide outstanding care to patients all of the time. As skills and competencies develop, taking charge and actively participating in and contributing to the day to day activities of the department. Supervising, supporting and mentoring students and HCAs. Assisting with the Flash Glucose monitoring (Free Style Libre)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Phlebotomy experience – or willing to be trained
  • Supervising / assisting in the patient pre assessment
Desirable criteria
  • 1 year post qualification experience.
  • Assisting with Free style Libre pathway

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise workload and patient care needs.
  • Basic IT Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice.
  • Able to explain the principles of mentoring and assessing junior staff.
  • Understands the importance of developing self and others.
  • Understanding of managing resources
  • Understanding of clinical risk.
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of audit
  • Ability to take on small research or audit project
