Highly Specialist Systemic Family Therapist

Band 8A

West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for dynamic, ambitious, and motivated Highly Specialist Systemic & Family Psychotherapist to join West London NHS Trust CAMHS Tri-borough Eating Disorders Service.

We are a large, dynamic group of family therapists in the West London NHS Trust and hold meetings both at a local level and at a tri-borough level. You will be contributing to the development of the Team and you will have the opportunity to be involved in service development, audit, research, supervision and quality of practice improvement projects.

We are looking for an experienced family therapist with the ability to work creatively with young people, families and promote systemic ideas to the wider system. You do not need to be an expert in Eating Disorders, but have a keen interest in learning more about it. We will provide training to develop your theoretical knowledge and practice in working in this area and there are ample opportunities for reflections and skills development.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work alongside other members of the service in addition to holding your individual caseload. You will receive regular clinical, professional and management supervision from the team’s Principal Systemic & Family Psychotherapist.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) consisting of mental health nurses, medical doctors, Psychiatrist, Eating Disorders Practitioners, Dieticians, Mental Health Support Workers, Occupational Therapist and other family therapist. We are a close and supportive team with weekly MDT meetings and monthly reflective groups.

As a Highly Specialist Systemic Family Psychotherapist you will also work as an autonomous clinician to contribute to mental health assessments, specialist diagnostic assessments of children and young people with eating disorder and comorbid complex mental health presentations. The assessment process is also multi-disciplinary and you will have many opportunities to work together with the other professionals in the team

You will document the outcome of these assessments, providing formulation, diagnosis, and recommendations for interventions. Primarily, you will offer a range of individual, family and group therapeutic interventions appropriate for children, young people and families attending the Service. You will also actively address areas of risk and safety management in a systemic way. You will also participate in the team’s duty rota. Being a senior member of the team, you will also have opportunities to contribute to the development of the team and its systemic practice in different ways.
