Senior Mental Health professional to be present in ED where possible to provide support / be a point of escalation on matters relating to mental health patients in the emergency dept.  

  1.  To carry a code 10 bleep on each shift and a rota basis.
  2. The allocation of the Code 10 bleep will be reflected on the staff off duty/rota.
  3. B7 is expected to make themselves known to the ED sister in Charge, RMNs and relevant departments at the start of their duty. 
  4. B7 is required to remain / float around ED, be visible and be the point of reference for all matters relating to Mental Health patients in the department.
  5. B7 is expected to attend the ED huddles and to have an oversight on all Mental Health patients in the department,
  6. B7 is expected to provide advice to the RMNs/HCAs on how to support the mental health patients in the department.
  7. B7 is only expected to support the Liaison team in reviewing patients where possible but not to be involved in full psychiatric assessments.
  8. B7 is to attend all Liaison handovers as well as discuss any issues they are aware of in the emergency department.
  9. B7 is expected to make the clinical assessment unit (CAU) aware of all potential referrals so the CAU can be prepared to receive these patients.
  10. All referrals to the CAU by a Band 6 PLN are to be discussed with the B7; the B7 is then expected to contact CAU to make these referrals once the criteria for transfer to the CAU are met.
  11. All other duties as required by the service.

As part of national expansion of Liaison Mental Health services to 'Core24', we are pleased to offer an exciting innovative opportunity for the role of Senior Psychiatric Liaison Nurse to work in the acute trust emergency department and ward settings.


Working as part of a dynamic Multi-Disciplinary Team, you will work at the interface between physical and mental health across inpatient hospital wards and in our Emergency Department. You will work with anyone over the age of 18 years presenting with mental health as well as physical health needs to both the emergency department and medical wards.


We are looking for two dynamic and tenacious SNP practitioners who enjoy rapid assessment / crisis work and working with a diversity of clinical presentations.


The role will be working as part of a multidisciplinary Mental Health Liaison Team to facilitate timely discharge and reduce multiple attendances of clients with complex mental health, physical health and social care needs. There will also be opportunities to teach both colleagues and acute trust staff / depts. as part of your SNP role.

You will also work in partnership with our clinical assessment unit (CAU) and you will be expected to support the unit as part of your SNP role.

Experience

  • • Significant post qualifying experience in mental health services with a sound knowledge of the full range of mental health services, both inpatient and community based.
  • • A sound understanding and experience of how to assess and manage crisis within acute mental illness
  • • Must be able to take an overview of the provision of mental health services and ensure service users’ needs are met appropriately

  • • Experience of working with specific diagnosis of Personality Disorder
  • • Experience of working with service users with harmful substance misuse and alcohol issues

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of all relevant legislation associated with acute mental health care, including MHA 2007, MCA, Human Rights Act, Common Law, etc
  • Sound knowledge of risk assessments and tools in mental health and acute care
  • Ability to build and maintain high standards of professional links and communication with a variety of persons and services

Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the epidemiology, presentation and immediate management of deliberate self-harm
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the physical and psychological effects of alcohol and drugs

Skills
