Main duties of the job

·       The post holder will work as a member of the Pharmacy team and will be required to assist with a wide range of portering duties.

·       To assist the Dispensary Manager to ensure all tasks in the pharmacy dispensary are completed as per objectives.

·       To provide work within the wider healthcare team to provide comprehensive, optimised pharmaceutical services, taking into consideration the high level of security which must be maintained at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Dealing with enquiries from, visitors, patients and staff in a courteous and helpful manner and assisting any patient or visitor with walking or directional difficulties.
  • To collect and transport medication from prison gate to pharmacy, making multiple journeys in a day.
  • Collect pharmacy related items from prison gate.
  • To ensure medication requests delivery to the house units in a timely fashion in line with the prison regime.
  • Collection and signing for CDs from the gate on behalf of the Pharmacy.
  • Delivery of medical gases to wards and departments, and the fitting of valve/flow meters as necessary. Advising pharmacy when gas supplies need to be replaced. Completing appropriate paper work and notifying pharmacy.
  • Collection of confidential waste from the Dispensary and deliver to holding areas within the site.
  • Collection and delivery of the Dispensary’s clinical waste in accordance with Infection Control procedure to holding area within the site completion of clinical waste record sheets original the main hospital copy to be filed in facilities office.

Knowledge / Experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE's level or equivalent
  • Experience working in a team
  • Experience of Health and Safety Practices
  • Proven ability to work without supervision
  • Fluent written/spoken English
  • Good organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Good communication skills (written and oral)
  • Able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
  • Ability to motivate self and others
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Appropriate levels of confidentiality are maintained
  • Declared medically fit by the Occupational Health Department to perform the duties of the post
  • The post holder must have the ability to understand and implement the equal opportunities policy at a level appropriate to the job.
  • Ability to promote anti-discriminatory and anti-racist practices
  • Ability to promote and work in line with the working model of a 7 day a week service
Desirable criteria
  • • Health and Safety qualification
  • • Manual Handling qualification
  • • First aid certificate
  • • Previous experience within a secure / prison environment or pharmacy
  • • Basic word processing and spreadsheet skills
  • • Experience with using SystmOne (Clinical System)

Applicant requirements

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
