Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Oncologist post at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, with an interest in Solid and CNS Tumours.

 

The Oak Centre for Children and Young People is one of the largest comprehensive children’s cancer centres in Europe, and with St George’s hospital is the Joint principal treatment centre for children and young people with cancer in London in the South Thames area. It is also home to one of Europe’s largest and leading drug development programmes in paediatric oncology. We also have one of the largest stem cell transplant services for patients with malignant disease in the UK.  The Children’s and Young People’s Unit at The Royal Marsden is fully integrated with all adult oncology specialities and enjoys the benefits of co-location with The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) on our Sutton site.

Main duties of the job

 The Children’s and Young People’s Unit has an excellent, well established paediatric oncology nursing service and there is excellent multidisciplinary care with well-developed integrated psychosocial, educational and family support. The Clinical oncology services are on-site and provide innovative radiotherapy therapies.

 

The appointee will be expected with colleagues to provide care for patients with solid tumours and brain tumours. The post will be predominantly based at the Sutton site with attending commitments at both Sutton and St George’s hospital.

Essential criteria
  • Membership of the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health or the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualifications
  • CCT in General Paediatrics or equivalent or within 6 months' of obtaining it.
  • Subspecialty recognition in Paediatric Oncology or equivalent
  • Eligible for full GMC registration
  • A higher degree
  • Teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad based experience in paediatric oncology
  • Interest in solid tumours and some experience of neurooncology
  • Motivated to ensure the achievement of desired targets
  • Organisation of education and training of junior doctors
  • Experience in medical audit
  • IT skills

Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • A relevant interest in clinical research
