Clinical Fellow in Haemato-Oncology - CLL/Lymphoma

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

Post to start September 2024

This is an exciting time to be involved in CLL/Lymphoma management, with major advances such as T-cell directed therapies being incorporated into clinical practice.

We are seeking to appoint a clinical research fellow on a fixed term basis for 12 months, with the option of extending to 24 months if agreed by both parties.

The post will support the lymphoma service primarily at the Sutton site. The fellow will attend the major Wednesday CLL/Lymphoma clinic in Sutton and there may be instances when the candidate is required to cover the clinics in Chelsea. An important part of the role will be to support the clinical trial work and it is anticipated that the candidate will review the patients in early phase clinical trials under the supervision of the Consultants. It is also anticipated that the postholder would carry out a clinical research project with an aim to publish results in peer reviewed journals. The post would not form part of study for a higher degree (PhD or research MD).

The job would be ideal for a candidate who wanted to gain a deeper experience of CLL/Lymphoma management and to learn about clinical trial set up and delivery, including phase I/II trials, at a leading tertiary centre with an opportunity to be involved in clinical research.

Providing the successful candidate has adequate experience, they will participate in the out of hours rota for haemato-oncology patients at the Royal Marsden Hospital site for evenings and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The applicant will be expected to:

  •  Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and high-quality evidence-based Haemato-oncology service, under the supervision of covering Consultants.
  • Supervision of ST1/2 trainees covering the Haemato-oncology ward.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and departmental educational meetings.
  • Participate in and develop multi-disciplinary comprehensive care and support for patients and their families.
  • To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the NHS Cancer Plan, the Improving Outcomes reports and National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance reports.
  • To contribute to the clinical governance work undertaken in the Clinical Unit building on standards of best haematological practice. This will include participation in audit, CPD and other activities associated with Clinical and Research Governance as required by the Trust and/or by The Royal College.
  • To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.
  • To maintain and promote team and multidisciplinary work.
  • To carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activities.
  • To recruit and manage patients on clinical trials in line with GCP and to abide by all clinical trial regulations including safety reporting, toxicity grading and assigning causality of adverse events.
