Are you a registered clinical or counselling psychologist or an accredited psychotherapist with experience working in an acute hospital environment?

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a leading Cancer Hospital in London, and The Adult Psychological Support Service is recruiting to a full time, Band 7 role in our Sutton hospital (which attracts outer London weighting) to work across our ‘directive’ and ‘family’ pathways.  You would be involved in supporting individuals and families affected by cancer via inpatient and outpatient work, and therefore need to be experienced in using CBT/ ACT/ CFT/ systemic approaches.  Additionally, you will be involved in consultation, teaching and training, supervising trainees. 

You will be joining a supportive and friendly team of qualified and trainee psychological practitioners, including counselling, psychology (clinical and counselling), psychosexual therapy, psychotherapy; as well as psychiatry and mental health nursing.  There is excellent internal and external CPD provision.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  •   To work across our ‘directive’ and ‘family and systemic’ pathways utilising CBT/ACT/CFT/ systemic therapies.  The post holder will work with adult cancer patients including those nearing the end of their life and their families (including their children). 
  •  Provide a high quality specialist clinical/ counselling psychologist or psychotherapy service to adult cancer patients and their families within the context of the Adult Psychological Support Service, including assessment and evidence based interventions associated with the complex physical and psychological impacts of a cancer diagnosis.
  • Work autonomously, within professional guidelines, code of conduct and the overall framework of the team/trust policies and procedures.
  •  Provide specialist advice and consultation on patients’ and families’ psychological care to colleagues through psychosocial meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings and attendance at clinics if appropriate.

  • To work as a clinician in the delivery of a psychological service to the Royal Marsden Hospital NHS Trust, working directly and indirectly with patients, and with members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in the care of cancer patients, to improve patients’ and their families’ psychological wellbeing, quality of life and coping strategies.
  • To provide specialist psychological assessments for patients and their families referred to the Adult Psychological Support Service and make decisions about support options taking into account the individual and family needs and choices of the patient and family, their clinical treatment, prognosis and resources available; referring on to the most appropriate specialists if required.
  • To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to formulation, diagnosis and development of a psychological care treatment plan. To contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings across tumour sites and clinical services where appropriate, develop relationships with medical teams and offer supervision where appropriate.
  • To attend case conferences, reviews and other meetings as and when appropriate.
  •  To ensure that reports and other correspondence are entered into the relevant notes and communicated to other professionals, parents and children, as appropriate.
  •  To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual patients referring on/ liaising with other safeguarding professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management as appropriate.

Education/Qualifications

  • For psychotherapist with dual health care training:  NMC Registered Nurse RN 1 OR Allied Health Professional (e.g. radiographer, OT, physiotherapist, SALT, dietician) OR Medicine/ Paramedic professional qualification AND  PGDip training in CBT therapy AND PGDip in systemic psychotherapy. AND  Accredited with a professional psychotherapy body For psychotherapist without dual health care training  M.Sc. in psychotherapy that included CBT or systemic therapies. AND  Accredited with a professional psychotherapy body For clinical/counselling psychologist  Post-Graduate Doctoral level training in Clinical / Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), accredited by the BPS AND  Registration with Health Care Professions Council

  • Training in one or more additional specialised areas of clinical practice, including CBT and 3rd wave CBTs / systemic therapy/ EMDR
  • Recognised supervision qualification/ training

Experience
