Job overview
We are looking for an innovative, self-motivated and enthusiastic Orthoptist to join our friendly and dynamic team. Our department consists of 14 Orthoptists and 8 Optometrists and we work closely with a large extended team.
The caseload is extremely varied and will include core Orthoptic clinics, adult motility and paediatric Ophthalmology clinics. We also have extended roles within, adult Neuro-Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, inpatient stroke service, and intra-vitreal injections for AMD.
We currently have 4 trainee ACPs working directly within Ophthalmology and are very supportive in developing ACP roles to support and develop a sustainable service for the future.
Consideration will be given to new graduates who would be employed on a Band 5/6 run through and we have a full preceptorship programme in place.
Main duties of the job
To take sole responsibility for the orthoptic assessment, diagnosis and treatment of all patients referred from the GP, other Health Care Professionals, vision screening, local optometrists, max fax, paediatricians, urgent care, neurology, stroke and rehabilitation services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To provide a comprehensive examination, diagnosis and treatment plan for adult and paediatric orthoptic and ophthalmology patients.
· To work autonomously
· To actively be involved in journal clubs and case discussions
· To actively be involved in all aspects of teaching including orthoptic undergraduates

Essential criteria
- Degree in Orthoptics
- HCPC Registration.
Desirable criteria
- Teaching
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Orthoptic experience: Adults and Paediatrics
- Evidence of appropriate knowledge base and CPD.
Desirable criteria
- Running single-handed clinics
- Taking part in audit
