We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to join our Cancer Psychological Therapies service based at Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital. This substantive post is for a 0.8 WTE Band 8a  Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.

This post will interest anyone looking for a varied role with management responsibilties, service development and a commitment to working within psycho-oncology.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

As the postholder, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the management of the Cancer Psychological Therapies team, contributing to management of a band 7 post, triage, caseload management, governance and outcome reporting. 

You will offer both individual and group assessments and interventions to patients diagnosed with cancer, while supporting the creation of a seamless pathway between acute and community settings using the stepped care approach.

The Clinical Health Psychology Service is a dynamic and compassionate team that offers a range of specialist interventions across various acute and community physical health teams. We have strong links with clinical and counselling training courses and regularly offer placements to trainees. We embrace a pluralistic, compassion-focused approach to support individuals with a range of physical health difficulties. We are looking for an experienced professional who is dedicated to working with cancer patients. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to developing and promoting evidence-based best practices. Additionally, they will feel confident working within an acute physical health setting, providing essential psychological support.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.  All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).

Qualifications

  • HCPC registered with doctorate in clinical/counselling psychologist
  • Training in 3 evidence-based therapies

  • Additional specialist Training, skills and practice in advanced therapy skills.

Experience

  • Specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings within the NHS.
  • Delivering psychological therapy in physical health services
  • Working within oncology settings or with cancer patient populations
  • Teaching, training and/or supervision experience
  • Level 2 training and supervision experience
  • Experience in contributing to governance and service evaluation
  • Experience in triage and caseload management

  • Experience in service development and project management

Knowledge

  • Doctoral level knowledge of audit and research methodology.
  • High level knowledge of assessment and management of clinical risk.
  • Up to date knowledge of NHS legislation, NICE Guidelines, and key developments in the field of clinical health psychology
  • Knowledge of models of supervision, consultation, training and staff support.
  • Knowledge of psychology of cancer, death and dying, long term health conditions and chronic pain.
  • Knowledge relating to working with patients with physical health difficulties, and within clinical health psychology settings
