Job overview

We are the Little Explorers Day Nursery, based within the grounds of Queens Hospital Romford, in a purpose built Nursery building. The Day Nursery operates Monday to Friday between 7am to 6pm, not at weekends or an Bank Holidays. We are looking to recruit an experienced Nursery Practitioner for our Day Nursery, to be integral in terms of working with our established team, with our Parents and with our children.

You will be able to work across the age range of 3 months and 5 years as you may be required to cover where necessary but as much as possible you will be based in one area of the Day Nursery. You will be keen, enthusiastic, want to bring new ideas and suggestions and to have the will to increase our Day Nursery rating from 'Good' to 'Outstanding'. You will be able to use Tapestry, our Day Nursery educational platform, and also to observe keychildren, to plan for them, to evaluate and plan the next steps for their development.

You will act as a keyperson to a group of children and to liaise closely with Parents. Experience of SEN is also required for this Day Nursery as you may be required to work with external agencies for the best outcomes for our children. As much as possible you will be required to know of DSL, have a sound knowledge of Safeguarding, PREVENT, FGM as well as other essential knowledge.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a team to create a happy, safe and stimulated environment for all children, aged up to 5 years of age and to meet the individual needs of the child.

To support the children in all areas of their development, including children with Special Educational Needs, in line with The Early Years Foundation Stage and plan accordingly.

To have specific keyworker responsibilities which include compiling progress reports, record keeping and maintaining parent partnerships.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
