Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and forward thinking experienced Registered Nurse, as outlined in the JD essential qualifications, who is passionate about safeguarding and is currently working in a similar role with a minimum of two years at Band 8a in safeguarding adults or a Band 8a with significant experience in safeguarding adults within an acute hospital environment.

As part of the corporate safeguarding service, the Safeguarding Adults Named Nurse will be a key leader and will be responsible for the delivery and monitoring of safeguarding and dementia procedures. This will include the provision of specialised advice and expert knowledge/training to staff, peers, other professionals and multi-agency partners on all aspects of safeguarding adults.

The postholder will act as a conduit of communication with professionals internal to the organisation and ensure continued external partnership working is achieved. The postholder will be an experienced team manager and aware of staff related HR policies.

If you feel you have the drive and the experience for this highly rewarding role, we recommend you contact the recruiting manager to discuss the role. Please make sure that your written application carefully considers the JD requirements and provides statements and examples of how you match the role essential and desirable criteria.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the job is to promote the early accurate identification and management of safeguarding concerns by leadership, expert practice, research and education.

The post holder will demonstrate advanced skills and competencies to influence the pathways of care for safeguarding adults at risk.  They will initiate and add to research evidence in the field of safeguarding to ensure that evidence based practice is inherent in all aspects of care.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we’re no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
