Job overview

The London Endoscopy Academy (LETA) is looking for a Practice Educator to lead the delivery, maintenance, and improvement of endoscopy training in North East London.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying and delivering specific and ongoing improvement projects within their area of responsibility and work collaboratively with NEL endoscopy services. This will be a great opportunity to support the development of training opportunities across NEL and to promote the standardisation of training for trainees working in Endoscopy.

The post holder will also work with executive directors of respective acute Hospitals, endoscopy leads and managers across NEL. This is an excellent opportunity for the post holder to develop their leadership skills and to play a strategic role in the development of training and education across NEL.

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of this role is to lead the delivery, maintenance, and improvement of endoscopy training in North East London (NEL), in collaboration with the London Endoscopy Training Academy (LETA). The post holder will be expected to oversee the endoscopy training across the ICS and liaise with trainees, training leads and endoscopy nurses/administrative representative at each site (i.e. BARKING, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals (BHRUT), Barts Health NHS Trust (Barts) and Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (Homerton).

The post holder will have specific responsibilities for; strategy and reporting, training, and course provision, improving access to training, and wider strategic planning and stakeholder engagement, as well as other responsibilities.

The post holder will need to be an effective leader, collaborator, communicator, and problem solver, building and maintaining strong relationships, gaining the trust and cooperation of staff of all seniority levels across the NEL ICS as well as senior stakeholders within NHS London and LETA, to ensure that endoscopy training provision in NEL is improved. The role requires a high level and breadth of specialist knowledge in endoscopy to work across a broad scope of areas including JAG, JETS, GIRFT, AHSN, clinical practice, NMC guidelines, and national best practice.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we’re no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
