The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, individual to join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers at Princess Royal University Hospital.

 MEMS provide a comprehensive service to the Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to develop and support its Medical Device Management Policy. This includes managing medical equipment throughout the duration of its lifecycle, medical equipment training, medical engineering, and operating the Medical Equipment Library. We are a department of over 30 staff including engineers, scientists and administrators, and support over 30,000 medical devices.

You will need to be a team player who is eager to learn, as well as being able to work alone. Knowledge and/or experience of medical equipment and medical equipment management is essential. Flexibility is essential to accommodate the constantly changing demands of a very busy service.

Technical

  •  Perform the following on a variety of complex electrical and mechanical medical equipment:

-            Formal acceptance tests

-            Performance tests

-            Servicing

-            Repairs

-            Disposal 

  •  Calibrate and operate test equipment correctly
  •  Carry out electrical safety testing of equipment
  • Contribute to the technical evaluation of medical equipment
  •          Analyse and diagnose faults on equipment involved in adverse incidents and provide verbal and written feedback

Communication

  •          Provide technical information and feedback to clinical users on the service and repair of equipment.
  •  Advise clinical users on the safe use and disposal of medical equipment.
  •  Liaise with equipment suppliers and manufacturers in the purchase, maintenance, use, and disposal of medical devices
  • Collaborate with other technical staff in the maintenance of medical equipment Produce  reports  on  investigations  of  medical  devices  that  have  been  involved in adverse incidents.
  •  Occasional supervision and training of more junior staff.
  •  Occasional training of clinical staff in the use of medical equipment.

 Clinical 

  •   Attend clinical areas to carry out repairs or regular service of medical equipment, either alone or with colleagues.
  •  Provide on-site assistance to clinical staff using medical equipment.

Quality Control

  • Adhere to the processes and procedures described in the quality manual.
  •  Identify inconsistencies and propose changes to processes and procedures.
  •           Assist with the development of processes and procedures to improve and enhance the quality of service.
  • Comment on proposed changes to processes and procedures

Education and Qualifications

  • Electronics knowledge to degree level or equivalent.

  • Working towards becoming a member of the Voluntary Register for Clinical Technologists (VRCT).

Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge of medical electronics and medical equipment.
  • Understanding of the use of equipment in the clinical environment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Capable of analysing and diagnosing faults on complex equipment.
  • Computer literate - able to use Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel to produce reports and extract information.
  • Current clean driving licence.
