An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, experienced Senior Healthcare Assistants to work as part of the Outpatient Department Nursing team at Princess Royal University Hospital & South sites.
You must be caring, reliable and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure a safe, positive patient experience.
You must have effective communication skills, be flexible and be able to adapt to changing demands and priorities. Care certificate is necessary to apply for this position.

Main duties of the job
- To work with minimal supervision, assisting in the delivery of nursing care across sites in liaison with the multidisciplinary team.
- To assist with administrative and clerical/other clinical duties to ensure the effective running of the department.
- To supervise support and facilitate the training of junior Health care assistants.
- To maintain own personal development with support from departmental manager.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Senior Healthcare Assistant, the post-holder will be required to provide high quality clinical /nursing care to patients as identified by Registered nurses, they are also needed to assess individual patient care needs and concerns, and to discuss these with medical or registered nurses.
- Giving physical and psychological support to the patient throughout the appointment.
- The post-holder will be required to measure and record patients' observations, including weight, pulse, respirations, Blood glucose monitoring and blood pressure and to carry out pregnancy and other routine urine tests.
- The post holder will be required to communicate with individual and groups of outpatients to advise them of matters arising during a clinic session, for example, waiting times and signposting patients to other department such as Blood test, transport, Venetian OPD, Pharmacy etc.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families/carers, recognising there may be a need to utilise alternative methods of communication. Where there are barriers to understanding, as required arrange access to information, support and other services to aid effective communication.
- Greet all patients and visitors to the department with courtesy and respect, being mindful of age specific body language and tone of voice. Demonstrate sensitivity and empathy.
- Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour, acting as a role model and ensure effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, families/carers and relatives.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English, or GCSE grade A-C or 4-9, O-level grade A-C or have a NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE.
- NVQ level 3 in Health Care or equivalent.
- Care Certificate.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience within a care setting /environment.
- Able to demonstrate excellent customer care skills.
- Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, update others in the team and use handover effectively.
