Job overview

This is a Clinical Fellow (ST6-ST7 level) in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to be based at the Princess Royal Hospital site, Kings College Hospital to commence ASAP initially for 6 months with a possibility of extension. Some cross-site working may be required pending further integration across the department.
The remit of the successful applicant will be to participate in the ST6-7 rota, providing and further developing care for women in maternity and gynaecology. King’s College Hospital has an enviable reputation for excellence in medical education; and the post holder will be actively involved in supervision, teaching and training of junior colleagues as well as undergraduate medical students.
This post will provide an ideal opportunity to pursue specialist interest training, for example EPAGSU/Emergency Gynaecology; Colposcopy, Ambulatory Minimal Access Gynaecology, Benign Gynaecological Surgery, Reproductive medicine, Advanced Labour Ward Practice, Medical Education.
The post holder will be encouraged to register for and complete relevant training and audits. You will be on-call (with and ST1-2 and ST3-5) as part of the SR rota, which is EWTD compliant.
As an employee of King’s College Hospital, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients.

Main duties of the job

Together with the others to provide Maternity & gynaecology services for women attending Princess Royal University Hospital. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties required for the proper functioning of the department.
• Shared responsibility with colleagues for providing 24hour, 7 day a week cover for the obstetrics & gynaecology on an on-call rota basis. Responsibility for covering colleague’s periods of annual leave and short-term sickness/absence, in line with departmental policy.
• Clinical supervision of other junior medical and non-medical staff.
• Responsible for carrying out teaching undergraduate student, contributing to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.  To undertake annual training/updates in infection prevention and control. 
• Excellence within own department/area of responsibility. 
• To prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety. 
• You have a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of yourself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post. 
•    You are required to observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations. 
•    You are required to observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff. 
•    You are required to be responsible, with management support, for your own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues. 
•    The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make to infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. 
These requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and in local policies and procedures which will be made clear during your induction and subsequent refresher training.  These standards must be strictly complied with at all times. 
•    All employees must hold an 'nhs.net' email account which will be the Trust's formal route for email communication.  You are therefore required to check this regularly and to deal with such communication promptly.
