Job overview

The East London Foundation Trust Pharmacy Department are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Apprentice Pre-Registration Pharmacy technician to join our innovative pharmacy team for February 2025 commencement.

This is a 2 year multi-sector training post designed to give the trainee the experience and knowledge to be able to qualify, register and work as a Pharmacy Technician and is a stepping stone to a wider career in Pharmacy. The training includes a versatile clinical programme that provides rotations across mental health, acute trust and ambulance services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will rotate between across Luton Mental Health Services, Bedford community health service, Leighton Road GP Practice, in Luton and Bedfordshire also Halfway community Pharmacy as the main 4 rotations. Trainees will also get exposure to medicines safety and community mental health transformation.

To participate in college/ distance learning one day per week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The trainee will be allocated an Education Supervisor who will oversee and support the trainee for the 24-month training period. Each workplace rotation will have a designated Practice supervisor that will oversee training and development in that rotation.

The underpinning knowledge and qualification will be delivered by a training provider- Skills4pharmacy. Study time will be available during your working week, but completion of assignments in your own time will also be required. You will need to be highly committed to achieve this qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency program. Individuals will need to be highly organised, self-motivated and capable of meeting multiple deadlines.

The apprentice is supported throughout the training and work experience, and with support, will learn to complete a range of tasks within timescales to a competent standard. They are required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to quickly learn new IT systems, be able to work efficiently and accurately, pay attention to detail and also enjoy working as part of a team.

This post is offered on a 24 month fixed term contract, full time Monday to Friday, with weekends and Bank holidays on a rota basis.

Essential criteria
  • • GCSEs at A-C Grade or 4-9 or equivalent in English and Maths
  • • Basic computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • • NVQ Level 2 – Pharmacy Services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Has understanding, knowledge and a specific interest in pharmacy.
Desirable criteria
  • • Previous experience in a healthcare setting
  • • Previous experience in Pharmacy
  • • Previous experience of handling or processing medicines and/or prescriptions

Knowledge and Skills
