Job overview
East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) have embarked on a very exciting journey to develop our specialist Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). In 2021, NHS England confirmed additional funding to develop an interim acute mental health inpatient unit for Children and Young People in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes.
The development of this service was done in conjunction with children, parents and carers who have experience of in-patient admission. Young people helped plan the ethos of the unit, recruit the staff and think about how we can deliver the best care.
Main duties of the job
The ward provides specialist, short-term care for children and young people aged 13-17 with severe or complex mental health difficulties. You will be working alongside a diverse multidisciplinary team that reflects the population that we serve. Our vision is to make a positive difference in Young Peoples lives by providing the highest quality mental health service to our local communities, to help them overcome some of life's challenges.
We are looking for a fantastic team of Support Workers to undertake direct or indirect care of a patient/ group of patients aged between 12-18 yrs, as part of the team, under the supervision of registered nurses within Evergreen.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will collaborate closely with families, the education provision and community teams in order to support and provide the best care to young people. This will include:
- Developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with Young People within appropriate professional boundaries
- Supporting Young People with their therapeutic/treatment programmes
- Be professionally accountable to the nursing team for the delivery of high quality care
The base is in Calnwood Court at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

Education/ Qualification/ Training
Essential criteria
- • NVQ in care level 2/3 or equivalent experience
- • GCSE level experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- • At least 6 months clinical experience in area of speciality or sufficient transferable skills
Desirable criteria
- • Be able to provide written reports on the advice of a Registered Nurse, relating to the care of service users or untoward incidents.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- • Motivated and committed to working in Mental Health Care
- • Good communication and interpersonal skills
- • Ability to undertake physical tasks involving patient care
- • Have an understanding of the importance of cultural and other differences in caring for patients in a safe and sensitive manner.
- • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of children and adolescents with mental health problems

Essential criteria
- • Responsible and caring attitude
- • Ability to cope under pressure in stressful situations.
- Required to work shifts as part of internal rotation, including night duty.
