This is an exciting time to join our service as we develop new ways of working across the pathway and we seek a strong leader to help us achieve our vision.  You will have demonstrable management experience within the NHS and significant experience working with clinicians and multi-disciplinary teams to achieve service improvement and meet quality standards.

 

The Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) is the largest adult national gender identity clinic commissioned by NHS England. The service accepts referrals for any patients registered with a GP in England who present with gender incongruence and wish to receive NHS-funded care in line with the National Service Specification (Non-Surgical Pathway) NHS England » Service specification: Gender Identity Services for Adults (Non-Surgical Interventions) Care includes specialist assessment and, where necessary, diagnosis of gender incongruence. It and may also include psychological therapies, speech & language therapy, endocrinology, referral for hair removal, referral for surgical procedures and aftercare.

Main duties of the job

The Operational Service Manager is accountable to the Clinical Service Manager post. They will ensure the effective delivery of services to patients following agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls, and resource constraints.

 

The Operational Service Manager will be expected to support the Clinical Services Manager and Managing Director in the delivery of Trust objectives and ensuring national targets are achieved.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will support the Clinical Lead and the Clinical Service Manager with the development and delivery of a strategic vision and ensure service changes meet internal and external expectations and standards.

 

  • Responsible for achievement of national and local service targets in conjunction with Clinical Team and Service leads and the Clinical Service manager; monitor performance against targets, identify areas of concern and take remedial and preventative action as appropriate putting in place plans to improve performance where required.
  • Respond to any service target breaches in line with Trust standards and put in place remedial plans to ensure future compliance.
  • Support Job Planning across areas of responsibility.
  • As a member of the management team, contribute to the annual Business Plan, ensuring staff involvement, in line with Trust objectives.
  • Lead the development of reporting processes from relevant information systems and integrate them into the IQPR as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Relevant Masters, equivalent professional qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development.
Desirable criteria
  • Prince 2 qualification or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of lean methodology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of managing successful project and/or operational performance and improvement; including business case preparation, service initiation/commissioning, contract negotiation and the development and monitoring of output and outcome measures.
  • Operational experience in managing complex services including design, development, implementation and management of change in a multiple-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience in managing complex budgets from a range of income sources and demonstrable evidence of individual, team, financial, process and change management.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the changing NHS environment, strategy, and policy agendas.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of operations and / or project management methodologies and techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of contract management.
