Job overview
The post holder’s primary task will be to oversee the stock management system within the External Off-Site Warehouse & Blackfriars Hub.
The post holder will flex between / work across both locations based on level of activity expected.
The working shift (7.5 hours) will initially be between the hours of 6am and 10pm Monday to Friday, but a future requirement of weekend working once the operation is fully live will be required.
The post holder will assist the Operations Manager in the receipt, pick pack and storage of deliveries into the external off-site warehouse and the Blackfriars Hub. This will involve checking stock levels and availability using stock control software. They will ensure that all items are stored under appropriate conditions and that the electronic stock management system (SAP) is kept up to date.
The post holder will support the various laboratory departments by delivering and replenishing (based on FEFO – First Expiry First Out) consumables stock into the relevant storage locations within the Blackfriars Hub
Concentration and attention to detail are essential to the processes performed as part of this role. The post holder will have to be physically fit and be able to lift and carry boxes within statutory regulation weights.
The post holder will, under the direction of more senior staff, participate in the provision of a high quality helpful and professional service to service users and visitors.
Main duties of the job
Organisational
- Understand the management structure of the department and own role within the structure
- Attendance at local and corporate induction sessions and Organisational mandatory recall training
- Aware of Organisation policies and Departmental policies, including sickness absence reporting, requesting annual leave and health and safety.
Communication
- Communicate any event that may cause a service delivery failure or other issues/problems that may affect the department to line manager in the work area.
- Provide and receive information to and from work colleagues or users of the service, including direction of enquiries to the appropriate member of staff
- Prioritise and plan own workload within a given time period and communicate own work priorities within the team. Demonstrate flexibility in carrying out own work priorities within the team context
- Stock & Service issues reported to line manager in the work area
Technical & Special duties
- Ability to work with handheld scanners to receipt, pick, pack and despatch stock
- Ability to work with computerised warehouse management systems such as SAP etc
Staff Management
- Cooperate with trainers when learning new tasks and contribute to the basic training of others
- Maintain good work relations with all members of staff, and promote effective teamwork recognising others skills and priorities.
Risk Management
- Work within the Warehouse & Blackfriars Hub Safety Policies and Code of Practice and maintain Health and Safety Standards in all locations ensuring less experienced staff also conform to the regulations. You must be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), to ensure that agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and employees.
- Maintain warehouse equipment in a safe clean working condition
- Maintain warehouse & hub working areas and workbenches ensuring they are clean and tidy
- Maintain awareness of hazards inherent in the warehouse/storage locations & laboratories and use adequate precautions at all times
- Identify problems affecting own area of work and respond in an appropriate time and manner problems referred to line manager where appropriate
- Report to the Health and Safety Officer deficiencies in the warehouse/storage locations & laboratories and/or any incident which involves injury or potential injury to staff and visitors.
- Maintain awareness of the local fire rules in the case of fire or suspected fire and report potential problems to the local Fire Marshall
- Attend Trust training for Health and Safety and Manual Handling

Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.
The partnership provides services to 1.7 million people living in South East London, as well as to hundreds of thousands of patients from outside the region who use local healthcare services.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
The performance of the post holder will be continually assessed for professional competence, and formally reviewed annually at Performance Review. Key elements of this process will be to establish evidence of continuing professional development and competence to practice as a Warehouse Operative & Storekeeper and contribution to the corporate objectives of the Synnovis organisation.

- 5 GCSE Passes (A-C), including English and Mathematics, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
