Band 6 Occupational Therapist - Older People's Inpatient Rehab

Band 6

Job overview

We are looking for  a dynamic, flexible, and enthusiastic band 6 occupational therapist to join our Older People’s Inpatient service at Queen Mary’s Hospital. We are looking for an individual with a real passion for inpatient rehabilitation.

The team works closely together to provide goal-orientated, client centred, continuing rehabilitation, medical intervention and management for patients transferred from St George’s Hospital acute wards and other local acute hospitals.

Queen Mary’s is a purpose built Community hospital with access to a wide range of on site and community services. You will be working on our 42 bedded ward where patients have a wide range of pathologies and complexities including post op rehabilitation, post falls, neurological conditions such as PD, dementia and other medical problems. Many of our patients are living with frailty and have complex needs requiring a high level of knowledge and skills to manage safe and effective discharges alongside the wider MDT team

Experience of working with older people is required

Main duties of the job

You will be providing OT assessment and intervention undertaking individual sessions, home visits and group work.  There is the opportunity to develop skills in dementia and older peoples care as well be involved in service development initiatives.

There may be the opportunity to see patients in their own homes for rehabilitation after discharge.

You will work very closely with the multi-professional team including physiotherapists, speech and language therapist, dietician, doctors, nurses, rehab assistants and social workers.   There is a strong emphasis on inter-professional working and learning with an in-service program and the opportunity to learn new skills from experienced seniors.

You will also have the opportunity to work with our Older Person’s rehab outpatient team.

Working for our organisation

You will be supported by a band 7 occupational therapist and the Clinical Team Leader.

You will be expected to have undergraduate students and supervise junior staff and/or therapy assistants

There is a strong emphasis on personal development and diverse opportunities for learning are actively supported.

The service links very closely with the Older People’s Day Rehabilitation Unit, and other community teams.
