Job overview
This is an exciting new split role position with Southwark CAMHS for a nurse prescriber. You will be contributing to specialist assessment & management and leading on co- ordinating medication review clinics within the CAMHS service, including independent non-medical prescribing. This will be for a range of complex mental health difficulties including ADHD, depression and anxiety. You will help cover prescriber needs of a range of teams, alongside and with support of Psychiatry colleagues.
The role will also help coordinate flow within Southwark CAMHS, offering clinical expertise, communication and support for families who are waiting for assessments. As this is a new role, these duties will be reviewed as part of the job planning process.
Main duties of the job
· You will manage a caseload, providing the analysis of complex information to determine the planning and management of assessment and treatment to C&YP with ADHD and other mental health difficulties.
- You will provide expertise in this highly specialist clinical area and to offer advice and consultation on clients care to other members of the team, in relation to the area of expertise.
- You will liaise with medical colleagues, partner agencies and mental health professionals across a range of settings.
- You will work autonomously within professional practice guidelines and Trust guidelines.
- You will contribute to policy and service development, undertake research, service evaluation and audit for own team/service and to contribute to the training of the clinical team and others.
- You will work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To offer assessment, treatment and pharmacological management of Children and Young People with ADHD and co-morbid mental health and/or neuropsychiatric difficulties, assuming responsibility for own caseload.
To ensure the smooth flow of patients in and out of CAMHS by monitoring referrals, escalating patients with long waiting times and communicating directly with those waiting.
To work as an independent and autonomous professional within professional guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work.
To provide primary CAMHS assessments, other specialist assessments, using self-report measures, as appropriate, structured observations, clinical interviews, and to interpret and integrate this highly complex data to identify and diagnose the cause of emotional and behavioural problems in C&YP.
To formulate mental healthcare and crisis treatment plans that are specific to each C&YP and family, based upon an analysis of complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes contributing to the presentation. To assess safeguarding issues for each case, consulting with other professionals and referring concerns to the appropriate safeguarding team as required.
To deliver evidence based treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying and adapting interventions drawing on a range of theoretical options.
To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans in conjunction with the C&YP, parents/carers and other services as appropriate
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First level nursing qualification (registration RMN or RSCN or HV) / with related CAMHS experience a
- MSc level qualification or equivalent with evidence of a comprehensive portfolio of post-registration professional development in child and adolescent mental health including evidence of clinical, audit and/or research presentations at local and national
- CAMHS events and evidence of publication of articles or the production of strategic reports which have advanced CAMHS.
- Non-medical prescriber with appropriate NMC registration

- Formal training in supervision
Experience
Essential criteria
- Graduate qualification related to or equivalent with evidence of a comprehensive portfolio including experience of specialist mental health assessment and treatment with children and young people with mental health difficulties, emotional, behavioural and relational problems and their families, including looked after children.
- Experience of managing complex and high risk cases.
- Experience of providing teaching and training to multidisciplinary groups. Experience of working with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Desirable criteria
- Significant experience working as an independent non-medical prescriber with a CAMHS service and ability to demonstrate continuing professional development in this area.
