Job overview
West London Children’s Healthcare was formed on 1st April 2022 bringing paediatric services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CWFT) under a single leadership structure accountable to both Trust Boards for all elements of operational, quality, safety and financial performance.

An exciting development opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced medical secretary within our West London Children’s Healthcare.
The Children & Young People’s Service is a dynamic and rapidly growing service.
The candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent administrative and medical secretarial skills, good communication skills, minute taking and the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to learning and progression.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide a comprehensive and highly efficient administration and secretarial service to Medical Consultants and teams with the department/services
- To communicate effectively with patients / carers regarding appointment and treatment related matters
- The post-holder will be expected to work independently, manage and prioritise their workload, liaising closely with the wider administration team within the department

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification or experience
- Good standard of secondary education; GCSE at Grade C or above or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Formal Customer Care Training or willingness to undertake AMSPAR or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience of a range of secretarial procedures
- Proven experience of dealing with patients appointment and booking system
- Ability to prioritise work to meet tight deadlines
- Experience of having working relationships with clinicians, GPs, managers, consultants and other clinical staff.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working in a hospital or NHS setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills including professional telephone etiquette
- Good keyboard and IT skills

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
