Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Dermatology department is seeking a permanent part time (4.5PA) General Practitioner with Extended Role in Dermatology to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team.
The post holder will be expected to show drive and initiative towards improving patient care in Hackney – both from a primary and secondary perspective. They should have significant experience in the provision of primary care services and either hold accreditation or seeking accreditation in dermatology, by completing a dermatology diploma or equivalent training. Furthermore, the department is looking to improve the integration between primary and secondary care services. At its core, we feel that improving education and upskilling GPs is integral to this process. The post holder will require evidence of medical education and a vision for how this would apply in this context.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be working alongside consultants within dermatology cancer clinics in a supportive and dynamic environment.
The successful applicant will join our growing team of consultants and specialist nurses and will be encouraged to develop areas of interest or research within the department.
There is no General Medical on-call commitment associated. Full secretarial support will be provided as well as suitable office space and IT support.

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a medium sized local hospital providing acute and community health services for Hackney, The City and surrounding communities and also provides a range of specialist services for a much wider population.
We provide general hospital and community services to Hackney and the City of London, and specialist care in obstetrics, neonatology, fetal medicine, fertility, bariatric surgery and neuro rehabilitation across east London and beyond.

The Trust comprises Homerton Hospital in Hackney and the Mary Seacole Nursing Home, situated in Shoreditch as well as Hackney and the City Community Health Services.
As one of London’s designated peri-natal centres, Homerton provides a highly specialised range of obstetric and neonatal services. A major capital expansion programme is in hand to accommodate 6000 births per annum and provide 40 neonatal intensive care cots.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive Dermatology service, with colleagues, including inpatient care and referrals, outpatient clinics, minor operation lists, telephone and electronic advice and guidance to local GPs.
· To undertake outpatient clinics for adult dermatology patients.
· To participate in responding to teledermatology referrals.
· Participate in providing skin cancer services by providing skin cancer outpatient clinics and attending MDT meetings.
· Active participation in clinical governance, academic and development meetings within the department.
· To share responsibility with colleagues for providing evidence-based standards of care for all inpatients and outpatients.
· To contribute to clinical audit and departmental research projects.
· To maintain their professional development to maintain a personal development portfolio.
· To work in accordance with trust policies and procedures including the Code of Behaviour.
· To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of Homerton’s business plans.
· To participate fully in the management and service development of the Dermatology Department and liaise closely with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager and Divisional Operations Director.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- On GMC’s specialist register relevant to the post or a Specialist Registrar who is within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC’s specialist register by date of interview
- MRCP (or equivalent)
- Highest level of Child Protection training
- Diploma in Dermatology (PGDIP)
Desirable criteria
- Intercalated BSc or equivalent Higher degrees including MSc, PHD or MD (where the research thesis is not part of first medical degree)
Relevant experience in speciality/sub speciality
Essential criteria
- Experience in Adult and paediatric Dermatology.
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Interest in Dermatology
- Experience of working in an integrated primary and secondary healthcare team
Desirable criteria
- Previous surgical experience
Clinical skills
Essential criteria
- Competence to the level of general practitioner in the management of medical emergencies, in-patients and out-patients
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Able to prioritise clinical need Able to maximise safety and minimise risk
- Evidence of competences in the UK specialty dermatology curriculum
Leadership and professionalism

- Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond appropriately to service need.
- Leadership experience in integrating skin cancer services across primary and secondary care

- Familiar with current structure of the health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
