Job overview

Chief Finance Officer

World class care requires world class leadership.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) as Chief Finance Officer, joining an exceptional executive team to lead the development and delivery of our financial and commercial strategy during one of the most exciting, challenging, periods in our evolution.

GOSH is a global centre of excellence in child healthcare. An acute specialist paediatric hospital with a mission to provide world-class care to children and young people with rare, complex and difficult-to-treat conditions, the hospital has, since its formation in 1852, been dedicated to children’s healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses.

Our last five years have seen real progress towards important goals for children’s health, as well as a tremendous increase in patients seeking treatment with us, in London, nationally, and internationally. We have started work on the building of our new Cancer Centre, which will increase our capacity and enable us to deliver even more excellent patient care, and we have implemented the EPIC Electronic Patient Record, opening up opportunities for improvements in the ways we work and collaborate, and in clinical research, innovation and discovery.

Main duties of the job

Building on these strong foundations, we are now looking for an accomplished, rounded, financial leader to make a unique leadership contribution to children’s health and care across the UK, and internationally.

Reporting to our Chief Executive, Matthew Shaw, this CFO will lead an excellent finance team, ensuring that we plan and manage our financial resources well, balancing and maximising our multiple income streams to ensure sustainable delivery of high-quality services and investment in people, research and innovation and infrastructure. They will also take the lead on many of the Trust’s commercial and system partnerships and negotiations, around research and innovation as well as the further development of our important private care business.

As our new CFO you will bring a track record of impactful financial leadership and management in complex environments of relevant scale, whether public or private sector, ideally operating within a regulated, service focused, environment. You will be committed to building inclusive, diverse teams, and have a track record building organisational cultures that promote openness, transparency and continuous improvement.

GOSH particularly welcomes applications from historically under-represented groups, including people with disabilities and members of minority ethnic communities, in order to increase representation at senior levels of the organisation.
