Occupational Therapist!

East London is a great place to start and develop your career as an Occupational Therapist!  You'll be part of a creative, progressive and dedicated Occupational Therapist team providing mental health services in the vibrant East London borough of Newham.  You will also be joining almost 280 Occupational Therapists already working in the East London Foundation Trust!

We have Band 5 and Band 6 opportunities across Newham and Tower Hamlets in adult Acute Mental Health.  Ideally, we are looking for full-time hours, but would consider part-time and flexible working.

We offer preceptorship, supervision, monthly educational sessions and access to an inspiring group of Occupational Therapists.  You will also work within Multidisciplinary teams as we promote collaborative working.)

 

Main duties of the job

Various sites and roles

To provide Occupational Therapy specific intervention to  adults  needs via a range of individual and or group treatments.

To develop and maintain links with the ELFT wide OT service, relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies as well as community organisations.

To contribute to the development of  OT services.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Developed interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with clients who have complex needs
  • Analytical & clinical reasoning skills to assess clients’ complex needs (including risk assessment) & complete a holistic formulation to guide interventions with significant support & supervision
  • Ability to apply specialist skills in individual and group based OT assessments, interventions and evaluations
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate a range of complex activities in relation to clinical work
  • Ability to manage frequent highly distressing clinical interactions with client’s and their carers
  • Ability to assess and manage exposure to potential hazards including frequent verbal aggression and risk of physical aggression in hospital setting and community settings (e.g. community venues, public transport etc.) whilst ensuring safety of self, client and members of the public
  • Ability to liaise with other services around clinical issues
  • Good organisational and time management skills
