Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a committed, forward thinking and enthusiastic Continence Full-time Nurse Advisor with energy, self-motivation and drive to work within the team covering the boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster on a 6-month maternity leave cover.

This post will be suitable for a Senior Community Staff Nurse to further develop and enhance their skills, knowledge and competencies in managing patients with continence care needs. 

This post supports the delivery of safe and effective services for patients with promotion of continence needs. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the lead clinicians to provide support and advice to the community nursing teams.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in research-based continence management and will support the implementation of best practice. You will be well supported by lead clinicians; will work as part of the team and independently to further develop the service and implement evidence-based practice. You will be in possession of recent professional development and have/willing to undertake recognised qualifications in promotion of continence.

 

Main duties of the job

·       

•    To assess, treat and review clients with bladder and or bowel dysfunction according to NICE Guidelines relating to bladder and bowel dysfunction 

•    To actively participate in the teaching and support of junior staff and act as a preceptor for new staff in the team and /or locality.

•    To perform investigations including ultrasound bladder scanning, urine testing, uroflowmetry, Digital Rectal Examination and pelvic floor muscle assessment demonstrating and maintaining competence at a specialist level

•    To manage a caseload of clients who require specialist continence nursing care 

•    To organise nurse-led continence clinics to reflect local needs

•    To refer clients on to other specialist clinicians for further investigations and/or treatment as appropriate

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Qualifications, Training and development relevant to the post.
  • Either have or working towards Post graduate Qualification or study in Continence Management.
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship training
  • Has undertaken formal training in staff and team Management
  • Clinical Supervision Training
  • Teaching or Training Qualification
