Job overview
The Pharmacy Department at Bart’s Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide clinical pharmacy, medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.
We are looking for a motivated and dynamic Pharmacist to join our brilliant Specialist Medicine Pharmacy Team. The post holder will be supporting the Lead Specialist Medicine Pharmacist in leading a team of staff in the delivery of high quality clinical pharmacy services to the Gastroenterology Department at the Royal London Hospital.
The post holder will be joining the Specialist Medicine Pharmacy Team. You will be working closely with the IBD multidisciplinary team as well as the wider Gastroenterology Team at the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals.
The post holder will be responsible for the Clinical Pharmacy and Medicines Management services within the Gastroenterology Department at Barts Health NHS Trust. You will undertake weekly outpatient clinics to initiate and monitor patients with IBD on conventional and advanced therapy. You will gain experience in business planning, service improvement, financial management and clinical governance. You will also be supported to further develop your leadership capabilities via a combination of internal and external training programmes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be supporting the Lead Specialist Medicine Pharmacist in leading a team of staff in the delivery of high quality clinical pharmacy services to the speciality primarily at the Royal London Hospital, although there may be some specialist cross-site responsibility for these pharmacy services on discussion with the Clinical Leads for Gastroenterology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his / her contract, which may entail travel and working at a different hospital.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MPharm or equivalent
- Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- Independent prescribing qualification, or willing to work towards
Desirable criteria
- Member of the RPS
- Management qualification or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post qualification experience in hospital pharmacy
- Experience of providing a hospital based service to Gastroenterology patients at Band 7 level or equivalent
- Experience of working in a MDT
- Experience in supervising and organising staff and work
- Evidence of basic teaching in a hospital setting
- Experience appraising staff and giving feedback
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with clinical directorates
- Experience working with high-cost drugs
- Understanding of the pharmacy homecare process
- Experience of successfully leading and implementing service improvement and change projects

- Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements
