A short description of the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated analyst to join our business intelligence team. This role will be responsible for providing national, executive, site and divisional level performance reporting for the Trust. This role will have a specific focus on cancer services at the Trust but there will be flexibility to get involved with other areas as well to ensure the role is as dynamic as possible.
This role will involve utilising tools such as SQL and Excel to produce analysis and data sets and the oppotunity to become involved in more complex areas such as forecasting in more innovative ways including access to R, Python and Qlik Sense.

The business intelligence unit has access to various analytic tools and contains a range of skills and expertise which makes it a great team to join to further your career in an analytical role. The Reporting Technology Team manages some of the main reporting layers that our customer base use, including our Qlik Sense reporting platform and Trust Integrated performance report. BIU team members are encouraged to develop new skills and explore the use of technology to continually improve the information we provide and allow the freedom for individuals to develop themselves.

A brief and specific description  of what they will be doing


This post provides a pivotal role in the development, production, reporting of activity and performance at Group level to the Trust Board and at hospital site level to the Hospital Executive Boards.  

The post holder will be expected to work directly with departmental leads across the Trust to ensure that data and any bespoke analysis is provided in a timely manner to support internal and external performance reporting.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree level or equivalent in a numerate discipline/experience.
  • Understanding of national NHS patient standard definitions and coding schemes.
  • An in-depth knowledge of NHS information requirements.
  • Knowledge of the National Health Service and issues in acute hospitals
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • MS SQL Server/T-SQL, VBA
  • Microsoft Products including Excel, Access and Word to an advanced level.
  • Working at a conceptual as well as at a detailed level.
  • Hospital Information System or Patient Administration Systems
Desirable criteria
  • Management of staff
  • Cerner system
  • Somerset data system
  • NHS Digital CWT-db.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Analysis of highly complex data to produce succinct information appropriate for its audience, using relational database systems linked to PC products
  • Ability to process, understand and analyse highly complex information and produce high quality outputs
  • Demonstrable ability to develop new ways of working
  • An effective completer/finisher
  • Operational research/modelling skills.
  • Ability to analyse, investigate and resolve complex queries, issues and problems
