Job overview

We are looking for an experienced psychological therapist to work closely with the clinical lead, playing a key role in supporting, inspiring and guiding the clinical work of staff, with a focus on continuing service improvement. This will involve overseeing and monitoring allocations for high intensity interventions within the service, liaising with colleagues within the service and external referrers, carrying out complex assessments where appropriate, thinking about other options for support if not suitable and devising care plans in collaboration with the supervisor, patient, referrers and other providers.

About the role:

This full-time role involves taking responsibility for the day-to-day smooth running of the step 3 treatment operation, offering Line managment ,  clinical supervison and supporting staff with complex decision making and risk assessment, gathering and reporting of data on secondary waits for S3 interventions, recovery, drop out and team's capacity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Contribute towards developing strategies to enable the Step 3 team to meet the nationally set targets around reliable recovery and reliable improvement
  •  Plan and manage treatment capacity to ensure that the nationally set targets around completed treatments and waiting times are met
  • To line manage the Step 3 team, supporting their well-being and development and managing their performance
  • Support the Step 3 Clinical Lead with the recruitment for qualified and trainee HIs
  • Oversee the step 3 waiting list and develop procedures to ensure appropriate client prioritisation·       To support the service lead in maintaining a strong, committed and motivated team
  • To work autonomously as a Senior Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.
  • Provide high quality specialist CBT supervision. and support supervisees in meeting performance targets as defined by the service, as well as meeting personal performance targets set in agreement with service lead.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or High Intensity CBT therapist (BABCP full accreditation)
  • Completed Supervisor Training
Desirable criteria
  • Training in an additional therapy modality offered in IAPT (e.g. IPT, DIT, EMDR, Couples)
  • Post Graduate S3 Training in HI Intensity CBT
  • Leadership Training

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience working within the Step 3 area of an IAPT service with managerial responsibilities, with a proven ability to take authority with sound decision making in a fast-paced clinical environment; experience of building effective working relationships with multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Experience of complex risk assessment, managing risk and safeguarding issues, supporting other clinicians with this.
  • Specific experience contributing to Step 3 service developments and improvements, taking responsibility for change management and evaluation of systems.
  • Significant experience in clinical supervision, line management and team management and decision making within the stepped care model within IAPT.
  • Experience in responding to complaints from service users and/or referrers in accordance with Trust guidelines..
Desirable criteria
  • Working within secondary care, and/or multi-disciplinary mental health teams
  • Training and/or experience in structured investigation of SUIs.
  • Experience and confidence in data management and communicating relevant information within the wider service and other relevant parties.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Skills and ability to act as an advocate for the service, to engage and foster good professional relationships with all health professionals and with voluntary and statutory agencies.
  • Ability to support the senior management team and to be confident in taking authority and using leadership skills as appropriate.
  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation whilst having the ability to be self reflective in both clinical and supervision work, and in regard to own professional development.
  • Well developed IT skills including IAPTus and ePJS, word processing , and data entry/analysis with the ability to create reports and communicate complex information in a clear and useful manner.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to manage capacity and scheduling of resources to meet demands.
