Job overview

Help give Harrow residents a voice in health services

We work with people who live and work in North West London to plan and improve health and care services. We have an annual budget of £6 billion and serve a diverse population of 2.1m residents. We are here to help local people live healthier lives, improve the quality of healthcare, reduce inequalities and make sure the NHS makes best use of resources.

We are now looking to recruit a community engagement specialist to work with residents and communities in the London borough of Harrow, while operating as part of a North West London- wide Communications and Involvement team. You will report to a Senior Involvement Manager and work alongside a team of public involvement specialists covering neighbouring boroughs.

You will have prior experience of working with the public on healthcare or in a related field, an understanding of how to engage and mobilise communities  that have sometimes been poorly reached and served in the past and a passion for turning insights from the public into tangible changes to benefit local residents and patients.

Our Communications and Involvement team provides expert community engagement and communications support to our strategic programmes to improve healthcare and to our borough teams. We are a busy, proactive and friendly team with a strong focus on improving health outcomes and experience for local people.

Main duties of the job

The primary aims of this role are to:

Develop and deliver effective community engagement to support ICB and ICS priorities

Support the borough to meet their statutory duties under the Equality Act, Public Sector Equality Duty and the duty to involve.

Align resident and community engagement fully with relevant communication and stakeholder activity to make sure our work is as effective and timely as possible.

Support the ICB and ICS in working with local people and communities to ensure the resident voice is able to influence North West London healthcare priorities and service change programmes.

Work with residents and communities in their borough and across North West London and support production of insight reports setting out what our residents and communities are telling us.

Work in partnership with the local authority, Healthwatch and the voluntary sector in their borough to reach and share insights from local communities.

Align delivery of core co-design and involvement projects with core ICB and ICS priorities, and play a leading role in the delivery of these projects.

Develop and strengthen the ICB’s presence as a strategic deliverer of community involvement work, across key borough-based stakeholders and the voluntary sector.

Foster strong relationships with local authority and NHS partners, borough-based partnership teams and the community and voluntary sector and Healthwatch in their borough.

Manage relationships with local residents, communities and patients.
