This a 6 month fixed term 0.8 WTE consultant post, based in the within the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. This post is based at SMH site, but with 1:8 out of hours covering all sites. The post is suitable for candidates who hold the FRCPath and are on the specialist register for microbiology with either virology or infectious diseases, or within 6 months of CCT date.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based at the SMH site, and will be working closely with colleagues in infectious diseases and 2 other consultants in microbiology on the same site. The post holder will engage in clinical microbiology laboratory liaison (including GP liaison work 1 day every third week), results reporting, IPC and AMS activities, and training of specialist registrars in microbiology. There are opportunities to be the OPAT consultant on rotation with other consultants, and gain experience leading ITU ward rounds. The post holder will lead on the liaison with specialist paediatric services, including PICU, NNU, paediatric BMT and paediatric ID teams, including paediatric AMS activities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The job will involve clinical, administrative and non-clinical sessions. These will be done on site. Clinical sessions will involve:
A total of 8 PAs
Clinical Activities: 7 PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)
Supporting Professional Activities: 1 PA per week (including audit, clinical governance, CPD, teaching, research, and CPD

Person specification
Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Infectious Diseases +/- General Medicine OR Medical Microbiology Or Virology, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

- Broad experience in Clinical microbiology and Infectious Diseases
- IT Skills and computer literacy

Teaching & Training
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff

- Understanding of principles of clinical audit and continuous quality improvement
Academic achievement
Essential criteria
- Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Language
Essential criteria
- Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
