We are looking for trainee counsellors interested in gaining experience working with adults presenting with mild to moderate common mental health problems. Tower Hamlets is a diverse borough and this is therefore an opportunity to learn to work adaptively and flexibly whilst taking into account societal and cultural factors contributing to the development and maintenance of distress.

Main duties of the job

Your placement would be within the Relational Stream which includes various modalities such as Counselling, Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) and Group Therapy.

Furthermore, this placement offers the opportunity to engage in a supervisory relationship with a BACP Accredited Counsellor. We aim to embrace and cultivate counselling as a profession and its values and identity and encourage each Counsellor in training to explore and develop their own identity as practitioners.

As a Counsellor on placement with us, you will be assessing, formulating and working with individuals presenting with mainly mild to moderate mood and anxiety and depression. You will offer time-limited individual therapy. In addition, you may offer Group therapy which is co-facilitated with a qualified Counsellor. You will have the opportunity to liaise with GPs, local Community Mental Health Teams and other secondary care psychology services as part of your role.
