The Role:
This post is based at the Clinical Blood Sciences Laboratory (CBS) at Kingston Hospital. However the post holder may be required to work at any of the South West London Pathology sites as and when necessary.
The laboratory operates a 24hr shift system providing cover to a busy A&E and acute services. The Laboratory is equipped with Roche c8000 analysers with P612 pre/post analytics automation for Biochemistry, and ACL Top 550, Beckman Coulter DxH 800 with AutoMate 1200 for pre/post analytics in Haematology and coagulation services, as well as BioRad IH-1000 and ID-Gelstation for automated Blood Transfusion services. Requests from outpatients are also processed on site. The bulk of the routine GP work is referred to the Hub laboratory at St Georges Hospital. The blood transfusion department delivers a wide range of pre-transfusion and antenatal investigations on site. The Kingston CBS Laboratory has 30 technical staff processing an approximate workload of 600-700k tests per year.
Main duties of the job
The Biomedical support worker role includes pre-analytical sample sorting/ preparation, data entry, receipt and maintenance of stock, attending to service user telephone queries, health and safety responsibilities, and post-analytical procedures. Although, the post does not attract support on completing IBMS registration portfolio, the role offers initial laboratory experience to candidates who wish to pursue a career in Biomedical sciences. Full training will be provided.

Essential criteria
- GCSE / O levels in Maths and English Language, or Science or equivalent
