Job overview

Band 3 - Advanced Biomedical Support Worker

(Clinical Blood Sciences)

Background

South West London Pathology is an award-winning NHS pathology partnership set up by St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide a single, integrated pathology service across South West London and beyond. On 1 May 2021, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust joined to form an expanded South West London Pathology partnership.

Main duties of the job

The Role:

Clinical Blood Sciences (CBS)

The South West London Pathology laboratory at Kingston Hospital operates a 24hr shift system providing cover to a busy A&E and acute services. The Laboratories are equipped with Roche c8000 analysers with P612 pre/post analytics automation for Biochemistry, and ACL Top 550, Beckman Coulter DxH 800 with AutoMate 1200 for pre/post analytics Haematology and coagulation services, as well as Diamed IH-100 for automated Blood Transfusion services.   Genexpert and Liat analysers are used for rapid Covid-19 testing.

The laboratory is about to undergo a major rebuild and Beckman instrumentation will replace the current Biochemistry analysers early in 2025.

Working for our organisation

The successful applicant will be able to work with laboratory equipment and processes across the Blood Sciences disciplines (Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Central Pathology Reception).

Whilst full training will be provided, you will need to have proven experience of working in a diagnostic pathology department and have knowledge across a range of laboratory procedures. The successful candidates will be expected to participate in the 24hr shift system after suitable training. Continuous professional development (CPD) will be encouraged.

There may be a need for the successful candidate to change their usual working location to one of the other SWLP laboratories in the future.
