NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Home, community, hospital

Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust offers a range of fantastic opportunities to grow your career across both hospital and community settings in south London. Whether you're looking to build new skills or take your experience to the next level, we are uniquely placed to provide the right environment to support your professional development. With colleagues working in people’s homes, in community clinics, and in our two hospitals, we have an outstanding breadth of knowledge and experience to draw from.

Our commitment to exceptional care is reflected in being the first trust of our kind in London to achieve an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC for both overall quality and leadership. We exist to provide the best possible care for our patients and we do that by giving our colleagues what they need to be their best at work. We have won numerous awards from the HSJ and Nursing Times for the way we support our colleagues across all our services.

We are proud to be recognised for our outstanding cancer care, children's services, pioneering surgical teams, and exceptional rehabilitation services. Our maternity services have been rated the "Best in London" by women surveyed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), with parents travelling to Kingston to take advantage of our considerable experience and expertise.

Our Trust values

These words are important reminders, but it’s our behaviours that tell people who we are. We expect all colleagues to bring our values to life in their work.

  • Compassionate: We provide care with kindness, understanding, and empathy for all.
  • Inclusive: We embrace diversity and respect the unique contributions of every individual.
  • Collaborative: We foster teamwork across all levels, working together and with our partners to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Inspiring: We are committed to continuous improvement and excellence in patient care, staff development, and innovation.

Job overview

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a district general hospital based approximately 12 miles from central London. The hospital is situated in a beautiful and historic part of the country and lies very close to Richmond Park, Hampton Court Palace and Kempton Park. The hospital supports around 350,000 people in the surrounding area from the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Roehampton, Putney, Merton and East Elmbridge.

We have approximately 520 beds and directly employ around 2,700 staff, with another 300 staff employed by contractors but working on behalf of the Trust. We are located on a single site in Kingston upon Thames, but run a number of outpatient clinics in sites across our catchment area including Raynes Park Health Centre, Surbiton Centre for Health and Teddington Memorial Hospital.

We provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services and have a national reputation for innovative developments in healthcare, particularly in 'patient-focused' care, day surgery and maternity services.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a full-time pure Rheumatology consultant post at Kingston Hospital. This is a new post, developed to provide succession planning for our team and build upon the Departments recent achievements.

Kingston Hospital Rheumatology has been at the forefront of developing community based services and our current Rheumatology service operates outreach clinics in Putney, Teddington, Surbiton, Molesey and Raynes park.

We are seeking an applicant with an interest in osteoporosis, who will be motivated and enthusiastic in moving the department forward and developing our fracture liaison service. We are supported by our excellent MSK radiology service and we have a well-established MDT that meet regularly. We have made huge progress in the development of our EIA pathways and work closely with our Primary Care and South West London colleagues as part of the Clinical Network.

The successful applicant will be required to join our plans to extend our outreach services and will spend part of their time in Community based clinics. Inreach work and ward referrals will be shared within the team.
