Job overview

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to provide specialist SRH care and work closely with colleagues from SRH, GUM/HIV, Gynaecology and Primary Care. 

The Consultant will be expected to work with clinical colleagues in providing and supporting a safe, efficient, and effective integrated sexual health service for Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust at the Wolverton Sexual Health Centre.  The post holder will actively contribute to the governance and quality improvement projects within the department.

Main duties of the job

 

Main duties of the job will include leading the multidisciplinary vulval pain service, provision of complex contraception, and supervision of the integrated GUM/SRH clinic at The Wolverton Sexual Health Centre as Duty Senior Clinician.  As part of the role, the postholder will be involved in the development, support, and delivery of work within a new Women’s Health Hub locally.

Working for our organisation

The post holder will have the opportunity to lead the specialist vulval pain clinic, a popular service that is well established and now requires a consultant with a special interest in this area to lead and develop the service further. The Trust is actively involved in the development of a women’s hub and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of this exciting new work, and planning services there.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will be required to support quality improvement, audit, research and management of integrated sexual health services and there will be opportunities to contribute to service development particularly in community services and the development of services in our local Women’s Health Hub. They will be expected to be involved in the training and teaching schedule for both undergraduate and postgraduate doctors and nurses and will also be involved in clinical supervision of trainees in the department.

There is currently no on call associated with this post.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMET/GMC by date if Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC))
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register
  • MFSRH or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher research degree (MD or PhD)
  • FSRH Registered trainer (FRT) or equivalent
  • Teaching Qualification
  • Training in Management
  • Dip GUM
  • STIF Intermediate or equivalent
  • FSRH Advanced Menopause qualification, Menopause ATSM or BMS advanced certificate in Principles and practice of Menopause care or equivalent
  • FSRH SSM in abortion care or RCOG ASM in safe practice in abortion care
  • IPM Diploma/Membership or COSRT Membership
  • GCP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of broad-based training experience and competence in routine and complex contraception and sexual health care equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • Experience of managing vulval pain conditions
  • Experience of safeguarding adults and children’s procedures and management
  • Experience of providing services to young people including under 16s
  • Experience of audit, quality improvement and other aspects of clinical governance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of setting up and evaluating new sexual health or outreach services.
  • Medical gynaecology experience
  • Experience of managing unplanned pregnancy and evidence of experience in MVA and abortion care
  • Ability to assess and manage presentations of menopausal symptoms including complex cases
  • Experience of developing patient centred healthcare, especially for individuals with increased vulnerability and /or complexity
  • Experience of setting up and conducting clinical research studies and collaborating with other researchers
  • Experience of working with colleagues, including commissioners at a regional or national level to help develop services or the specialty itself
  • Specialist interest in genital dermatology
  • Clinical and educational supervision experience

  • Extensive knowledge and skills of relevant SRH and GUM practice
  • Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
