Main duties of the job

- The assessment and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department in all clinical areas according to department need under the direction of the Consultant in Charge.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care.
- Support of nursing staff and junior colleagues.
- Engage in audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Abide by Trust standing regulations and clinical guidance.
- The post holder is responsible for all contractual obligations towards his/her employer and any statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Report any risk arising to patients, staff or other service users.
- Establish an agreed personal development plan with his/her allocated Consultant Mentor.
- Attend and/or participate in departmental teaching programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Our Emergency Department cares for around 115,000 patients every year. Our department attained the best outcome in South London in the GMC Trainee Survey in 2019 due to its commitment to training and development.
As a Trust Registrar you will:
- Provide timely and effective assessment and management of patients in the Emergency Department.
- Work closely with consultants and senior medical staff to deliver optimal care plans for patients.
- Acting as the ‘Lead Registrar’ in the role of EPIC (Emergency Physician in Charge) and the most senior clinician in the department overnight.
- Participate in the teaching and supervision of junior medical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Engage in clinical governance activities to ensure adherence to clinical guidelines and quality standards.
- Contribute to research initiatives and quality improvement projects within the department.
- The trust registrar would be expected to be involved in delivery of high-quality care to Paediatric and adult patients.
- Uphold professional standards and ethics in line with GMC guidelines.
The department has a specialist resuscitation team that has received accolades from the CQC and NMC. The team is made up from nurses and paramedics and has improved our management of sepsis in adults and standardised our initial approaches to the acutely unwell patient.
You will be given opportunities to develop a career portfolio including opportunities for participation in department audits, training, contributing to the department governance, involvement in simulation and research. You will also be provided with a Consultant mentor to provide supported in your development portfolio and encouraged to get through any exams that will be of benefit to your progress.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Current ALS certificate
- Current ATLS certificate
- Full GMC Registration
Desirable criteria
- APLS
- MRCEM
Clincal Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 2 years post registration experience.
- At least 12 months must be in EM, with at least 6 months of this worked within an environment similar to that seen in the UK.
- Reliable Work Record
Desirable criteria
- Additional experience in acute specialties
Competencies
Essential criteria
- Evidence of achievement of ACCS EM competences (See RCEM Curriculum for competencies) (Individuals who do not have these at hand are able to complete these in the first 3 months through supervised practice)

- Evidence from workplace based assessments of clinical performance (DOPs, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) and Multi Source Feedback or equivalent
