Job overview
This post offers an exciting opportunity to join the Orthogeriatric Service to develop new models of working and services that support all older people attending the hospital and within the local community.
Kingston Hospital serves a local population with a high degree of frailty, so this post offers an opportunity to participate in developing the management of patients with fractured neck of femur and other fragility fractures in South West London.
The Trauma and Orthopaedic admissions unit has 36 beds and is well supported by an integrated multidisciplinary team, led by two Orthogeriatric Consultants who are responsible for assessing and managing the majority of unscheduled emergency elderly care orthopaedic admissions to the unit throughout the week. Our ward based clinical team is well established and prides itself in being patient focused. We are looking to attract enthusiastic, high calibre candidates who are passionate about delivering first-class compassionate care. With training and skills across orthogeriatric medicine, an interest in falls prevention and bone health this role would be an exciting opportunity to mobilise change and improve patient’s clinical outcomes.
Main duties of the job
Our working model for the Orthogeriatric Consultants delivers alternating trauma ‘take’ weeks, with the vision to provide fragility community outreach and outpatient clinics to support discharge planning for some of our must vulnerable patients.
We are excited to be announcing the development of our Fracture Prevention Service, which will go live in January 2025. The orthogeriatric team will be leading this service, working collaboratively with our rheumatology and community based partners to identify and support patients at risk of fracture.
The Orthogeriatric team work closely with the Orthopaedic Surgeons, Anaesthetic Consultants and the wider Care of the Elderly team, with combined Risk & Governance structures to promote shared learning.
This is an established post, currently covered by a locum consultant. The post does not include on call commitments; however the service would be happy to consider participation if candidates were interested.
