Job overview

Due to Maternity leave, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paediatric Matron for the Paediatric department at Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust.

The Paediatric Unit comprises of an inpatient ward with 24 beds and 2 high dependency beds, a Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) / ambulatory care unit, a designated children’s outpatients, a paediatric outreach nursing team and level 1 POSCU.

It is a busy, friendly unit that provides high quality care for children and young people with a wide range of acute medical & surgical illnesses and complex conditions.

You will be expected to take the professional nursing lead for the paediatric inpatient and outpatient services within the department, working alongside a highly motivated nursing and medical team. You will part of the management team; working with the clinical lead and service manager in order to provide a quality and efficient service for Children and Young People at Kingston Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be clinically based and responsible for the delivery of high quality paediatric care at all times, providing clear professional and clinical leadership. The post holder will maintain effective communication channels throughout the Trust in order to ensure that the needs of the patient and their family are placed at the centre of care delivery. To work collaboratively with the Paediatric nursing teams to ensure that the standards of patient care and cleanliness of unit environment continue to improve. Provide a visible and authoritative presence in the ward areas for families to access for advice and support. Be an active participant in the Trust wide senior nurse forums (Matrons Forum; Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professional Board).

Essential criteria
  • RN (Child)
  • Recognised Post Graduate management qualification or equivalent experience
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Masters level qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant years of experience at Band 7 with management responsibility of a Paediatric unit
  • Experience of Quality improvement and audit
  • Experience of staff management/employee relations management
  • Experince of dealing with written and/or verbal complaints

  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships in an MDT environment
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and influence others
  • Excellent management and organisational skills
